With the passage of the landmark American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the U.S.
government has committed billions of dollars in healthcare related spending, including a decade
of significant investments toward improved Health Information Technology (HIT). The
breakthrough legislation provides opportunities for hospitals, physicians and other healthcare
providers, as it drives the implementation of new HIT that will cut costs, streamline workflows
and improve patient care outcomes. However, no matter the technology, it alone cannot generate all of these results. While the U.S. government encourages the “meaningful use” of HIT, each investment in IT infrastructure must take into account the need for a patient-centered, evidence-based, clinical practice framework, as well as a systems approach to quality improvement designed to support interdisciplinary care.
With the promise of clinical decision support and evidence-based tools, Elsevier can bridge the gap between the intentions of governmental legislature and the realities of providing continuous quality care, in order to forge a path towards your organization’s ARRA and HIT goal fulfillment.
