Jay Katzen
Managing Director

Jay Katzen serves as Managing Director for the Clinical Decision Support (CDS) group within Elsevier Health Sciences. He is be responsible for all CDS operations and strategy, including product development, marketing, M&A and sales.

Jay brings more than 23 years of experience in delivering information and workflow solutions to researchers, clinicians, and executives to improve institutional outcomes. Most recently, he was the Managing Director of the Academic and Government Markets unit at Elsevier’s Science & Technology division. In that role, Jay was responsible for product, marketing, strategy, M&A, and project and portfolio management. He led two acquisitions and delivered the SciVerse platform for scientific search and discovery, which includes SciVerse Hub and Application Marketplace and integrates ScienceDirect, Scopus, and Scirus. In addition, Jay led the strategy to define the new SciVal suite of solutions and services, enabling Elsevier to enter a new market for performance and planning at universities and government agencies.

Prior to joining Elsevier in 2007, Jay was the Senior Vice President of Marketing, Business Development and Knowledge Management at Micromedex, the Clinical Decision Support unit of Thomson Reuters. Prior to Thomson Reuters, he held the roles of Vice President of Marketing and Business Development with Unbound Medicine and Lexi-Comp, Inc.

Jay is based in Philadelphia and holds a B.A. in computer engineering from Case Western Reserve University and an M.B.A. from Cleveland State University.

Marianne Messer
President - Elsevier / Gold Standard

As Vice President of Pharmacy Solutions, Marianne Messer oversees all aspects of product development for Elsevier / Gold Standard’s complete suite of pharmacy solutions, including Clinical Pharmacology, Alchemy, ToxED, and ProspectoRx.

Ms. Messer, who joined Elsevier / Gold Standard in 1996, served as Executive Vice President of Sales and Corporate Development since 2004 and was previously Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

With more than 34 years of experience in electronic publishing, Ms. Messer is an expert on the use of information in workflow and point of care systems, as well as on the electronic drug information industry and its role in improving clinical outcomes and reducing costs.

Prior to joining Elsevier / Gold Standard, Ms. Messer worked for LexisNexis, the largest legal and news online information service, a Reed Elsevier company.
John Schrefer
President - Elsevier / MC Strategies

John Schrefer serves as President of Elsevier / MC Strategies, the learning and performance management business unit of the Clinical Decision Support (CDS) group. John has worked for Elsevier, including acquired Elsevier companies, for the past 34 years. During this tenure, he has led in a variety of capacities, including heading up Marketing for all of Elsevier Health Sciences, and leading Sales and Marketing for Mosby Consumer Health, a former division of Mosby that provided health services to payers, providers and employers.

John’s solid leadership style is most evident through his diverse and open team environment approach, and he brings with him a consistent track record of business growth met by first understanding and ultimately meeting market needs.
Thomas H. Zajac
President - Elsevier / MEDai

Tom Zajac serves as President of Elsevier / MEDai, a provider of population management, physician profiling, regulatory compliance and clinical surveillance solutions to providers, health plans and healthcare organizations. He brings over 25 years experience in building clinical, financial, and operational performance improvement solutions for both vendor and healthcare organizations.

Tom was formerly President of CareScience, spending eight years building the company into one of the leading providers of integrated quality improvement, regulatory reporting, outcomes research, HIE data exchange, and transformational services to over 250 health organizations. Prior to CareScience, Tom spent eleven years building Transition Systems’ (TSI) success as the leader in healthcare decision support, with 1200 US and international provider and payer customers. TSI was acquired by Eclipsys, where Tom established and became President of the Business Solutions Division, providing advisory and transformation consulting to customers across its spectrum of products.

Tom is a Senior Scholar with the Jefferson University School of Public Health, is a prior contributor to the Center for Healthcare Transformation, and has presented at both national and international forums on healthcare management. Most recently, Tom was Managing Director of Zajac and Associates, LLC, providing product and strategy services to private equity, vendor and provider customers in healthcare.

Hajo Oltmanns
President - Elsevier / CPM Resource Center

Hajo Oltmanns serves as President of Elsevier / CPM Resource Center, the only provider of evidence-based clinical content solutions and services that are built on a proven professional practice framework.

Prior to joining Elsevier, Hajo worked in management consulting at the Boston Consulting Group, where he focused on strategy development across industries. He has worked for the investment banking division of Credit Suisse First Boston, and for Rowohlt Verlag, a division of the publishing group Georg von Holtzbrinck. Hajo holds an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, and an MA from the University of Edinburgh.
